To go from the small screen to the big stage is no small feat but it’s something that Peppa Pig’s Fun Day Out accomplished delightfully. Bringing these popular children’s characters to life with engaging songs and puppetry it’s the perfect show for mini theatre buffs.
We follow Peppa Pig (Amy Brooke) and her friend Daisy (Perrie Sunuwar), Suzy Sheep (Zinny Udala) and George (Elisha Covell) as they go to the zoo and the beach for a special birthday party.
This interactive production encouraged audience participation through singing and dance. The audience followed their escapades as they fed fish to penguins, were surrounded by butterflies, met a colourful scarecrow and even swam in the sea.
Fun was the intention and fun was the outcome. What I particularly enjoyed was the easy to follow educational element. Reminding the children of what they saw along the way, including them so that they felt like they were part of the journey; so important in ensuring that the children were not only entertained but informed. The show was bright without being too over stimulating and the set design was really well done. I also appreciated the fact that it was a cohesive and fully fledged out performance as opposed to a series of random experiences.
There’s a wonderful festive surprise at the end of show which was a lovely touch.
My two and a half year old daughter was captivated. Seeing one of her favourite characters brought to life right before her very eyes. I only wish I could have experienced how she felt too, but seeing her so happy was a pleasure in itself.
