Mondays need an adrenaline shot to face the week ahead after the lie in seems a distant memory and one struggles to understand why there is a flood of emails in the inbox before 12 noon.

What else could counter that feeling except to tear up the dance floor for some devilishly danceable rhythms – also known as Salsa?

The African Salsa Orchestra is a multi lingual phenomenon that is comfortable singing in Yoruba, Spanish, French, English and Diodu – all without missing a beat. The songs still felt intimate and energised for the whirling, twirling salsa fans who were ready to teach their feet a lesson.

Led by Michael Pinheiro on its debut U.K. tour, it is clear that the blazing horns were not the shy instruments on stage as a sensual cocktail of Manding rhythms, gospel, rhythm and blues and reggae associated with Cuban salsa demanded that we tear up the dance floor.

Hip shaking from all over the globe – Benin, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Congo and France –  the 8 man band members commended the audience on its vibe.

All in all, a pacey evening in the iconic Jazz Cafe. Word of warning: salsa and singlism don’t mix!
