Take a break to get to know Black History Walks founder Tony Warner over a coffee, hosted by comedy writer Njambi McGrath. Tony will explore his career working on the British Film Institute’s African Odysseys programme, being an educational writer and his latest student book GCSE (9-1) Edexcel History Migrants in Britain c 800-present.

Programme:

  • 5-15 minutes – Discussion with Tony Warner, Black History Walks about his work and career, and glimpse into his creative routine
  • 10 minutes – Advice for authors on how to keep creative
  • 10-15 minutes – Q&A from audience

The Line-Up
Tony Warner – Author

Tony Warner is the co-founder and chair of the African Odysseys programme. This grassroots initiative has been exhibiting African diaspora films on a monthly basis at the BFI’s Southbank cinema for 15 years. He is also the founder of Black History Walks in London, a group that explores the Caribbean and African history of the capital via 12 guided walks, talks, films, courses, bus tours and river cruises.

Tony is the author of Black History Walks in London Volume 1. The book explores the African and Caribbean presence in London over the last 2000 years. He is also a co-author of the Pearson GCSE history textbook onmigration and Black British civil rights for use in schools. The Black history section of the text was adapted from the Notting Hill walk he designed. It is the first time this has happened and most of the subjects covered in the text were never available for study at this level.

Njambi McGrath – Author and Comedian

Njambi McGrath is a rising comedy star, with a Radio 4 hit series Becoming Njambi, selected for Comedy of the Week. She authored Through the Leopards Gaze, optioned for TV. She was awarded the prestigious Hackney Empire NATYS Award in 2019 and had a Soho theatre run, seven Edinburgh shows & four comedy specials.
