Over the past 20 years, Akram Khan Company has become a platform that retells ancient myths to speak to us now and constantly reinvents itself in order to reflect the world as it changes. This autumn Akram Khan returns to Sadler’s Wells with three pieces of outstanding storytelling.
Outwitting the Devil
23-27 November
The season starts with new work by the company, Outwitting the Devil, which makes its UK premiere at Sadler’s Wells. This epic dance piece is about ritual and remembering inspired by the Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh and seen through the lens of the current climate crisis.
XENOS
30 November – 4 December
Akram himself will take to the stage for the final UK performances of his full-length solo XENOS, alongside five world-class musicians. Conjuring a shell-shocked dream of an Indian soldier fighting in World War One. Akram Khan received the Lawrence Olivier Award 2019 for Outstanding Achievement in Dance for XENOS, and the Outstanding Male Modern Performance Award at The UK Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards 2018.

Chotto Xenos

Inspired by Akram Khan’s award winning final full-length solo XENOS, Chotto Xenos is a captivating dance production that takes young audiences ( 7+) and families back in time, exploring the often forgotten and untold stories of World War 1 colonial soldiers, in order to shine light on our present and future.
