Following its successful sold-out debut in 2018, the children’s musical, which is an adaptation of Casey Elisha’s children’s book, Love Thy Fro, will play 9 shows at Theatre Peckham from 17th – 26th October 2019.
Written by Casey Elisha, Stephen Adu-Antoh, Malachi Green and Ronald Nsubuga, Love Thy Fro: The Musical follows a young girl named Kemi as she goes on an unexpected journey to the 1970s and realises there is much pride to be had in loving the skin you’re in. Love Thy Fro is so much more than a musical; it’s a coming of age experience that every black person can relate to,” Casey said about the production. “If you missed it last year, you missed out, and you don’t want to miss it again! Stories like this need to be told and, as young creatives, we have a responsibility to help tell them.”
Released in December 2015, Love Thy Fro the book is about a girl named Kemi who loves her beautiful, big, curly, afro hair. The first batch of books sold out within 24 hours. The musical is supported by Arts Council this year. Sponsors include natural hair subscription box TreasureTress, and celebrity barber SliderCuts.
