The product of artist and dancer Jamila Johnson-Small’s performance project – Last Yearz Interesting Negro (LYIN) – through small dances, video and a big sound system, LYIN addresses the pressure to ‘take space’ and the feeling of being possessed by other people’s fantasies.
The choreography prioritises noise over silence, now over yesterday and pleasure over doing it right. Featuring original compositions by Josh Anio Grigg, Junior XL, Nkisi, Shelley Parker and Young Nettle this mesmerising and rhythmic piece examines the body as oracle and its relationship to the mind.
