Diva-Verse Productions proudly present Behind The Canvas – their first production of 2019, which features an all-female cast and director.
The dark comedy tells the stories of two women which are somehow interconnected and looks at how our life experiences shape us into the people we are, whilst exploring themes of perception and mental health.
Initially staged as a short two-hander in 2016 for the Nunhead Art Festival – this fresh piece of theatre has since been developed into a full-length play with an all female ensemble. Written and produced by Lola Remi and Shakella Dedi whose previous works collectively include: Healing in Time (Edinburgh Fest, Soho Theatre), HAASTRUPS (Web Series due for release this spring), Lost On Location (The London Theatre), Women On Wine (read review) (Above The Stag Theatre) I’m A Londoner (Tristan Bates).
Director Lucia Cox is also a writer and producer. In 2013 she wrote, produced and directed One Hand Clapping (Methuen Drama 2015) which toured the UK and New York. Her one-woman show, Blackbird won a Forever Manchester Award and in 2012, was nominated for a Manchester Theatre Award. It had its New York premiere in 2013. She has also written for BBC Learning, International Arts Manager Magazine, Performing Arts Yearbook, Northern Soul Webzine, Whats On Stage. Lucia has worked for Glynis Henderson Productions and STOMP and in February, directs one- person show Ladybones at London’s VAULT Festival.
