“Congratulations to the new and emerging playwrights who have been shortlisted for this year’s Mustapha Matura Award and Mentoring Programme. It has been a joy to read the work of young playwrights, dedicated to growing in their craft, and revealing something vulnerable and brave about what they wish to say about the world. The Judges have also been excited to see such depth of exploration, and we hope that being recognised by the award will offer meaningful pathways of development and opportunity to young, gifted, Black British playwrights of the future.

It is a great honour and delight, to be able to offer this opportunity and in the name of Mustapha, who loved working with and encouraging young people to achieve their dreams”.

“A huge congratulations to the playwrights who have been shortlisted for this year’s Alfred Fagon Award for Best New Playwright. It has been a truly exceptional year, with a great amount of powerfully written work for the judges to engage with.  I hope that these exceptional plays, demonstrating bold storytelling, exploring a creativity of form and variety of subject matter, shows that there’s no shortage of Black British talent, whose work we champion and should be seen on stages across the UK”.
