Alfred Fagon Award
Last year’s award for Best New Play of the Year was won by Mojisola Adebayo who won £6,000 for her play Family Tree.
The competition is open to any playwright of Caribbean or African descent, resident in the UK, for the best original, new stage play in English. Entries are submitted online

Mustapha Matura Award and Mentoring Programme
Last year’s inaugural award was won by Chakira Alin who won £3,000 with her play Heroes. She is currently on a nine-month mentoring programme with playwright Roy Williams OBE.
The competition supports newly emerging and young black playwrights of the Caribbean and African descent up to the age of 25 and is open to any playwright of Caribbean or African descent, resident in the UK, for the best original, new stage play in English. Entries are submitted online
The Mustapha Matura Award and Mentoring Programme are supported by the Estate of Mustapha Matura, Garrick Charitable Trust, The Henry Kent Trust and many individual donors.
Winners will be announced at The Alfred Fagon Award ceremony in November 2022.
